Astrological Geomancy is an ancient art, derived from the practice of the wisemen of the Middle East who divined the future from marks made in the desert sands by people seeknig enlightenment and resolution of problems. Geomancy, or earth divination, later was naturally combined with the other ancient science borne of the clear skies of the desert - Astrology.

Geomancy in it's own right, on the other hand, relies on sixteen basic signs that have names, meanings and a wide range of associations. These signs are often used by ritual magicians to produce sigils, offensive charms that reach out to grasp the quality invoked, and amulets, charms that protect against that specific quality.

When elaborated by ritual magicians, geomantic divination can be quite complicated. The basic system, however, is straightforward and amazingly effective. Geomancy is used primarily for pragmatic questioning that reflects the quality of earth, stabilizing and practical affairs.

The Method

To begin a reading, firstly you have to make your question clear in your minds eye. Focus yourself and clear all else from your mind. The most traditional method of obtaining an answer is to make marks with a wooden rod in a box of earth or sand. The modern alternative is to make marks with a pen or pencil on a piece of paper

The signs are made by producing sixteen horizontal lines of random marks, then adding up the marks to see if the total number on each line is odd or even. An odd number produces one dot and an even number produces two dots. Each four of these sets produces a geomantic figure like those in the column on the left. These four figures are then manipulated to produce a reading.

Take a sheet of paper and divide it into sixteen horizontal rows. Without thinking about it, make a random number of marks in each row, a number one or a check mark will do. Whatever you do, don't count while you're doing this. When you've finished the sixteenth row, add each row across. If the row has an odd number of marks, write the total number and put a single dot at the end of the row, if the row has an even number, write the total number and put two dots side by side. Each group of four lines reading from the top gives a geomantic figure. The sixteen lines will produce four figures or 'Mothers'. The signs used are those in the left -hand column, and are eventually 'made' into five groups, 'Mothers', 'Daughters', 'Nephews', 'Witnesses' and 'Judge', one group being made from a previous one.
